At any time during the development of a WebBuild Express page or site you can view it as it will appear on the Worldwide Web, whether or not you have an active connection to the Internet.
When you request a preview, WebBuild Express runs a program that "Publishes" your page or site in a temporary file on your computer, and it then launches Internet Explorer to view the newly-created file.
As noted above, everything is local on your computer; you do not need a connection to the Internet unless you want to test things that require Internet access (like links to other sites, dashboard items, etc.)
Page Preview
To preview a page, click on "File" or "View" in the main menu and then on "Page Preview". Or click on the "Preview Page" button ( ) in the main toolbar at the top of the WebBuild Express design window. In a few moments you'll see the page appear in a browser:

If you look closely at the text in the browser's Address window, you'll notice that it looks something like:
This is the address of the temporary file that has been created on your computer.
Using Other Browsers
If you'd like to see how the page will apear in a browser other than Microsoft Internet Explorer (e.g. Netscape or Opera), it's easy to do. Just copy the file name from Internet Explorer's Address window, launch the browser of your choice, and paste the file name into the browser's Address window.
Shown below is the result of viewing the same page with Netscape Navigator:

Note that this page does not display in Netscape the way it does in Internet Explorer, because the Table of Contents uses HTML instructions in a Code Cell (IFrames) that Netscape does not support.
Site Preview
"Page Preview" lets you view a single page in a browser. But if you try to follow links to other pages on the site, you'll get a "Page Not Found" error. To view the entire site, you should use "Site Preview".
To preview the site, click on "File" or "View" on the main menu and then on "Site Preview". You may have to wait a few minutes for all the pages on the Site to be published, especially if you have a large site. Just as in "Page Preview", you will see your page displayed in Internet Explorer. Now, if you click on any Internal links, other pages on the site will appear. |
