Site Search
You can often achieve productivity savings by building "generic" sites (for example, a small-business site) that they use as a template for many sites. If you are retained by a customer to build a new site, it may be possible to create much of the site from the saved template.

Occasionally you may find it necessary to rebuild an existing site. If you start by creating the new site using the existing site as a template, you can make changes and view published pages without disturbing the existing site. When the new site is completed, then you can easily publish it using the old domain name.
To create a new application, using an old one as a template, start by choosing "New Application" from the "File" menu:

You will see the following screen:

Enter the name of the new application in the field, and click the "Next" button. You'll see:

The small pane at the upper right of this screen will contain a list of all applications on your computer. Select the one you want to use as the template for the new application. (Here the user has selected Wellworks3). You will notice that the home page of the application will appear in the large window.

If you want all pages in the application to be copied, click "Copy All Pages From Application" near the top left of the screen. Then click "Yes, Use Selected Template" at the bottom.

The new application will be created in a few seconds. You will be located in the home page, but you can navigate to any page by using the "
Go To" button ().

WebBuild Express Prewritten Templates

WebBuild Express contains several dozen prewritten templates that you are welcome to use as a start to designing pages. To access these templates, click the "
Add New Page" button (). You'll see the following screen from which you can select a template:

Click the button next to "Use Page Template From List" and navigate to WBE_PageTemplates in the left-hand pane:

You can browse through the list in the center pane to locate a template that is closest to the way you want your page to appear. Select it, click "OK" and the page will be created from the template. You will then be able to make any modifications you like.

You can use a WebBuild Express page or application as a template for other pages or applications. This makes it easy to reuse work that you've done and to give all the pages on the site uniform appearance and functionality. In addition, there are a number of pre-built templates that you can use as a starting point for designing new pages or sites.

Using Page Templates

When you
create a new page, you can choose to use a template by clicking the button labeled "Use Page Template From List":

You can choose any page from your current application by choosing it in the "Select Page" list, or you can use pages on any application on your PC by selecting the application in the left pane and the page in the middle.

The right pane of this screen will show the upper left corner of the page you select.  (If you want to see the entire page, click the
button at the top left of the pane).

When you click the "OK" button, your new page will be created. It will contain all the objects and formatting from the original page, including
Search Engine data. The only thing that will be different from the original page will be the page title, which will default to the name you give the new page ("New Page" in the example above).

Using Application Templates

You can use an application as a template for another application. In this case, the new application will contain a complete set of pages and images corresponding to those in the application used as its template.

The following are some reasons that application templates are commonly used:

Tip

Remember, you can see the full page of any template by clicking the
button at the top left of the right-hand pane.
