Building A Page
The Design Environment
At the top, there is a header that shows the Application (Demo) and Page (Home) names. Below that is the Main Menu ("File", "Edit", "View", "Help"). And below that, there is a toolbar with a number of buttons with images on them that at first seem cryptic. You will note, however, that as you move the mouse over the tool buttons, a label will appear that sheds some light over its function. If you move the cursor over the "T" button, for example, you will find that it performs "Text Format" functions.

Below the header is a large white area that is almost empty except for the words "Empty Cell". This is the design area, the "canvas" on which you will place text, graphics, and other elements that will make up your Web page:

The WebBuild Express design environment is the tool you will use to design your Web page. It consists of several sections.

You will notice that when you move the cursor over the middle of the page that a faint gray square appears around the words "Empty Cell." If you click anywhere in the cell, the cell outline becomes a thin red line.
When you start a new page, WebBuild Express automatically places one empty cell on the page.

A cell is a container that can hold text, graphics, or both. It is a useful mechanism for arranging and positioning the elements of your Web page.

What is contained in the cell is one or more "items". We will discuss cells in more detail in the next section of this tutorial.

At the bottom of the WebBuild Express Design Environment, there is a horizontal bar (Status Bar). To the right of the bar is a copyright statement.

As you begin to work with the elements in WebBuild Express, this bar will begin to contain helpful information. While you are moving cells, for example (see
Moving and Resizing Cells), the bar will contain the X and Y coordinates (measured in pixels from the top left corner of the page) of the cell's upper left corner:

You can think of the WebBuild Express Design Environment as having three major parts: Tools at the top, information at the bottom, and work area in the middle.
