Building A Page
Cell Colors
Unless you choose otherwise, cells will appear on the published Web page without borders and with a transparent background. The cell in which this text is entered, for example, does not have borders or a color background.

If you want, you can change how cells appear. Left-click on the cell border to select the cell, and then click on "Edit" in the Menu Bar in the tool area at the top of the WebBuild Express screen. Then click on "Cell" and then on "Edit":

The following window will appear:

Note that there are many choices you can make about ways to edit and format a cell. We will deal with these in more detail on the Cell Formatting page. For right now we are going to concentrate on the "Background and Borders" section of this window, at the top of the right-hand column.

Click on the "Select Color" button under "Background". (Note that the cell background is initially Transparent). You will see the following window:
This is the WebBuild "Color Picker" or "Wheel" as it is known to its friends. You can choose a color by left-clicking anywhere on the wheel. When you do, a set of palettes will appear on the right that you can use to refine your color choice.

Above is what you'll see when you have clicked on a medium blue on the wheel. Note that the selected color apprears in the large vertical rectangle at the right of the screen. To the left of this rectangle are four vertical bars that offer possible refinements of the color choice.

By clicking on the spot shown on the third vertical bar, the color above has been lightened slightly.

You can continue to click on areas on the screen until we find the exact color you want. (Try it -- it's fun!)

[A note about "Web safe" colors. The WebBuild Express Color Wheel is capable of generating over 16 million colors. Not all computers or browsers can accurately show this many colors. If you intend your WebBuild site to be viewed by a wide range of viewers, it is prudent to limit your color choice to the colors that are generally considered "Web safe". You can select "Web safe" colors by checking the button marked "216 Colors" near the top of the Color Selector. This will result in your choices being converted to the colors that are "Web Safe"].

Here, if you click on the "216 Colors" button and then on any color on the pallette, the Color Selector will convert your choice to the nearest "Web safe" color. It may not be exactly the color you want, but it should display well on almost every user's PC.

Now let's click on the "OK" button at the upper right of the Color Picker to accept the selected color. You will return to the Cell Edit screen:
Note that the chosen color now appears in the "Background Color" rectangle. When you click "OK" on this screen, you will see the cell with the background color:

Note that the text in this example was also formatted to have a light yellow color and to have bold 18-pixel Arial text.

Tip:

The color you have most recently selected will always appear in the rightmost panel on the Color Picker. In this example it is a light blue:
