Probably the easiest way to create a menu is to start with a cell into which you type the items that you want to appear in the menu. Shown below is a cell into which we've typed three menu titles and formatted them:
Now highlight the first menu choice ("Overview") and click "Edit" on the main menu, "Links and Anchors" on the dropdown menu, and then "Create". In the Links and Anchors dialog box, choose the type of link (internal, external, etc.) and specify the page to which a visitor to your site should go when he/she clicks the menu choice. Use the Links and Anchors dialog box to specify formatting for the link, such as a changed font color when a visitor moves the mouse over the link.
In this example, I've chosen to link the "Overview" menu item to the "Overview" page and chosen a hover effect that changes the text to a bold green when a visitor mouses over the link:
Once the first link is set up, a good trick is to copy it by highlighting the entire link and choosing "Edit" and then "Copy" from the menu (or pressing the Control Key and the letter "C" at the same time). Then use "Paste Special" to paste the Text Formatting. Links and Anchors, and Hover Effects to each of the other items. When you do this, all the links will point to the page you designated for the first link. It's easy to change this by doubleclicking each of the following links, which will bring up the Links and Anchors dialog. You can now change the page that each of these links will go to. Once this is done, you'll have a complete menu with uniform formatting:
Try it out. Build a few menus. You'll be amazed at how many different and creative ways there are to present menu choices to your visitors. The only limit is your imagination! |
