Snap is a useful way of ensuring that cells are aligned when you create them and move them around the page.
When Snap is turned on, a cell will align itself with lines on an invisible grid. You can determine how far apart the lines on this grid are by choosing "Options" on the "View" menu and then setting "Snap Strength" on the "Behavior" screen.

To turn the Snap feature on and off, use the button on the toolbar. By hovering the mouse over the button, you can tell if Snap is currently on or off. If it is off, you will see:

A good way to learn how Snap works is to set the Snap Strength to a fairly high level (32 or 64 pixels) and then enable Snap. Then create a cell and drag it around the page. You'll see how it "jumps" from one Snap position to another as you drag it vertically and horizontally. |
